Young Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Tilak Varma played a great knock in his second Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) match as he made 61 in 33 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours before the experienced Rajasthan Royals (RR) offie Ravichandran Ashwin cleaned him up with perfect off-spinning delivery.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) were asked to bat first after Rohit Sharma of MI won the toss. MI went in with an unchanged XI, while RR brought in Navdeep Saini for injured Nathan Coulter-Nile. Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills were the best picks of the bowlers from the Mumbai Indians’ side as they picked three wickets each.
However, RR had the last laugh as they finished their 20 overs making 193/8 with Jos Buttler making 100 in 67 balls with 5 sixes and 11 fours to his name. Sanju Samson slammed 30 in 21 balls, while Shimron Hetmyer provided the fireworks in the last few overs, hitting 35 in 14 balls with 3 sixes and 3 fours.
Tilak Varma Is Clean Bowled By Ravichandran Ashwin After A Brilliant Half-Century
RR bowlers did well to pick up Rohit Sharma for 10 and Anmolpreet Singh for 5 runs at Mumbai Indians didn’t have the best of the starts. But then Ishan Kishan continued his good run of form scoring 54 with 5 fours and 1 four and added 81 runs for the third wicket with young Tilak Varma.
Varma, on the other hand, impressed everyone with his hitting as he slammed 61 in 33 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours. It looked like the duo will take MI past the finishing line or near the finish. But then Trent Boult had Kishan caught by Navdeep Saini at the square leg boundary.
But the biggest blow came when Ravichandran Ashwin clean bowled Varma with a genuine off-spinner that turned as Varma tried to sweep the ball and it clattered into his off-stump.
