A bizarre umpiring incident took place in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22 game between the Melbourne Stars and the Perth Scorchers as umpire Bruce Oxenford reversed his decision in just three seconds.

In the 5th ball of the 14th over of the Perth Scorchers innings, Xavier Crone delivered a short-pitched ball to Ashton Turner and he tried to play a pull shot and was unable to make a good connection with the ball and the ball hit his helmet and the wicketkeeper easily took the catch. The on-field umpire Bruce Oxenford soon raised his finger, giving out to Ashton Turner after the bowler appealed.

However, just a few seconds later he realised that the ball has made no connection with the bat and he reversed the decision. Also, the batsman seemingly signalled that the ball had made no connection with his bat instead it has hit his helmet.

Everyone was surprised to see the bizarre mistake by the umpire and skipper of Melbourne Stars, Glenn Maxwell even asked umpire for the clarification. Meanwhile, after surviving Turned went to score 27 runs off 19 deliveries.

Meanwhile, Perth Scorchers defeated Melbourne Stars by 50 runs in the match. Batting first Scorchers posted a total of 180 runs on the board with the help of good innings by Opener Kurtis Patterson and Colin Munro.

Chasing the target Melbourne Stars were bundled out for 130. Joe Clarke top-scored for the side as he smashed 52 runs.

With the dominant win, Perth Scorchers have become the top-ranked side with 7 victories in 8 games. On the other hand, the Melbourne Stars are placed at the 6th spot with 3 wins from 6 games.
