Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan in the first over of the run chase against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The two sides are up against each other in their final games of the league stage. A win for KKR puts them in the driver’s seat to make it to the playoffs.
KKR was put in to bat on another bowling-friendly pitch in Sharjah. The ball stayed low throughout the innings and run-scoring was tough. However, Shubman Gill took his time and assessed the pitch before launching a great attack in the middle overs.
It provided the perfect platform for the KKR batsmen who followed. Coupled with some cameos and sloppy fielding from RR, the Kolkata franchise reached 171 in their innings, the highest total in Sharjah this season. The total was above par and RR needed a great start.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be as Jaiswal perished in the very first over. Recognizing the nature of the track, Eoin Morgan opted to start with Shakib Al Hasan and it paid dividends right at the start. Jaiswal tried to reverse sweep the third delivery he faced and paid the price.
The ball snuck through and crashed into the stumps, giving the perfect start for KKR. The match has a lot at stake for both teams – a loss for RR will end its campaign while a loss for KKR means that Mumbai Indians (MI) have a chance to go through tomorrow if they win their final match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
