Team India skipper Virat Kohli has been in tremendous form with the bat in recent times. He scored an outstanding century in the day-night Test against Bangladesh to back his double century against South Africa. The talismanic run-scorer recently revealed what he gifts himself after he scores double century in the red-ball format of the game.

He must be a happy man now after India’s recent progress in world cricket across formats. However, what has been heartening is India’s dominant run in Test cricket. Currently, they are ranked 1 in the ICC Test Rankings and also leads the chart in the ICC World Test Championship. The Asian giants have recorded seven straight wins from as many matches to pocket 360 points and sit at the top of the points table.

Virat Kohli reveals how he treats himself after playing a big knock

Virat Kohli, on a personal level, has also done well with consistent runs and leading the team from the front. In a recent chat with Boria Majumdar, the talismanic run-scorer revealed how he treats himself after scoring a double century. Just like Steve Smith, who treats himself to a bar of chocolate after scoring a hundred; the Kohli equivalent is a big, carb-heavy meal. For instance, when he made 235 against England in Mumbai three years ago, for example, he ate a chicken burger, but only one half of the bun it came in.

“On tour, during games, I reward myself if I’ve gotten big runs,” Kohli said in a chat with India Today. “I’ll give you an example when I got 235 against England in Mumbai, which was hot and humid, so day [three], evening, I did not touch anything, I focused on my regular diet, and I was already batting on, I think, 100-plus overnight.

“And then next day when I finished on 235, I was gone, I was cooked because during the game I don’t like to eat heavy, so I was focusing on bananas and water and a little bit of dal-chawal and so on. So Basu sir (Shanker Basu, then India’s fitness trainer) told me, ‘tonight, you can afford to eat anything you like,’ but even then I ordered – and I was eating meat that time – I ordered a chicken burger, I took off the top bun – I couldn’t stop myself – I said, okay, one piece of bread is okay, not two, but then I had a big plate of fries, and then I had a chocolate shake along with that, because I knew, my body needs it,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has got a good few days off before the start of the series against West Indies. India play the Caribbeans in a three-match T20I series starting from December 6 followed by three ODIs.
