The former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin showered words of praise on the current skipper Virat Kohli for his exceptional consistency. The right-handed batsman once again delivered the goods for Indian National Cricket Team on Tuesday to help them equal the scoreline in 3-match ODI series.
Kohli scored 104 runs off 112 deliveries with a strike rate of a dash over 90 and stitched three fifty-plus partnership to lay the foundation of India’s chase to the formidable target of 299 runs. Meanwhile, Azharuddin predicts that he would score 100 International centuries if he stays fit.
The former skipper went on to add saying that Virat Kohli is a brilliant player, whose numbers speak a lot about him. Further, he felt the Indian batsmen are in a fine nick to make things happen for India, especially, in One Day format.
Virat Kohli is a great player – Mohammad Azharuddin
Azharuddin feels that Kohli can surpass both the legends and go atop in the list given he maintains his fitness. Kohli slammed his 39th ODI century as India successfully chased down 299 to win the Adelaide ODI. The win has set up the series perfectly for the finale on Friday at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
“Virat Kohli’s consistency is very good. If he stays fit, he will reach the 100-century mark. He is way ahead of many great players as far as his consistency is concerned. He is a great player and India have hardly lost whenever he has scored a century,” Azharuddin told Sports Tak.
“If you look at the trend whenever India’s top three score runs, we go on to win the match. Unfortunately, in the previous match we lost three early wickets, Rohit Sharma did score a century but we lost. But today, Virat Kohli batted extremely well and MS Dhoni too played well. Dhoni even got tired in the end but he kept his wicket intact. Dinesh Karthik also batted well. Overall, India’s performance was very good,” Azhar added.
Kohli’s 39th ODI ton took his international tally to 64, overhauling Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara. He now stands only behind Ricky Ponting (71) and Sachin’s 100 in the list of most international centuries by a batsman.
Well, as Mohammad Azharuddin said, Virat Kohli is way ahead of the rest of the players in the world cricket when compared to his numbers. He would easily surpass the record if he stays fit.
