The form of Virat Kohli with the bat may not be that threatening for New Zealand but the flamboyant batsman made sure that he won’t back down when his side is on the field with the ball in the hand. He looked his old self on Day 2 of the Christchurch Test match, which impressed the former Test specialist of India VVS Laxman.

Indian skipper Kohli isn’t having the best of times with the bat in the ongoing New Zealand tour. The flamboyant batsman found it tough to make things fall in place with the bat throughout the tour barring T20I series.

As a result, India isn’t having a great run with the willow in the two-match Test series versus New Zealand as their woes on green-tops have been exposed once again by a daunting Kiwi pace attack. The poor show on Day 1 further knocked the confidence of the team down.

However, Virat Kohli was pumped up on the field. He gave an animated send-off to his good friend Kane Williamson, who departed cheaply early in the morning.

Notably, Kohli took a fine low catch at the 2nd slip to send Henry Nicholls walking back just before the break. And there were quite a few aggressive celebrations as well as the India captain looked charged up while abusing Kiwis fans too.

“The intensity, his body language was there to be seen. He is not getting affected by the low scores he has had so far on this tour. Because the worst thing for any team when you lose a Test match when you lose an ODI series 3-0 is the body language and the confidence level of the captain getting affected,” he said.

”With Virat Kohli, you don’t see that. And that’s rubbing off on all the players. The body language is there to be seen on each and every player in the park,” VVS Laxman added.

On Day 2, India made a tremendous comeback with the ball. Riding on Mohammed Shami’s four-wicket haul, India bundled out New Zealand for 235 runs in the first innings to take a seven-run lead.

However, they let it loose with four quick wickets in the second innings as the second day’s play ended with India scoring 90 for six.

Overall, they have taken a lead of 97 runs.
