CSK needed a solid start with the ball after managing just 125 runs earlier in the match. While they lost just five wickets in their innings, CSK never really looked like going for a big score. Their batsmen once again failed to show any sort of intent as the three-time champions finished on a below-par total in the crucial clash.
In reply, Ben Stokes gave Royals a quick start by helping them race away to 20 in two overs before CSK took three wickets in quick time to turn the game on its head. In the third over, Deepak Chahar sent back Stokes to give CSK the much-needed early breakthrough.
Two balls later, Josh Hazlewood accounted for Robin Uthappa to leave Royals reeling at 28 for 2. And even before Royals could score any run, MS Dhoni came up with the fine effort behind the stumps to send back Sanju Samson for a three-ball duck in the fifth over.
Chahar bowled one at Samson’s legs and the latter went for a flick. However, he ended up edging it behind the stumps where MS Dhoni dived to his left and took a fine low catch. At the time of compiling this report, Royals were on 36 for 3 in the 7th over.
