There were wild scenes at the MA Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday night as Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kings XI Punjab in a thriller.  Batting first, the Virat Kohli-led side piled up a mammoth 202 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Kings XI Punjab gave the home side a run for their money but their eventually fizzled out as Royal Challengers won the game by 17 runs.

Asked to bat first, the Royal Challengers rode on AB de Villiers‘ whirlwind fifty to post the mammoth total. De Villiers scored 82 from just 44 balls and shared an unbeaten stand of 121 runs with Marcus Stoinis (46) to guide the Royal Challengers to a 200-plus total.

In reply, Kings XI Punjab openers Chris Gayle and KL Rahul started well.  The two added 42 runs in just 19 balls before Umesh Yadav sent back Gayle.  But it did not bring any respite for the Royal Challengers as Rahul and Mayank Agarwal continued playing the big shots and took the score past the 100-run mark  in just 9 overs. However, Royal Challengers sent both the batsmen in quick succession to reduce the visitors to 105 for 3 from 101 for 1.

However, Nicholas Pooran and David Millers steadied the ship and kept the chase on track. The equation was finally down to 36 from the last three overs. Umesh then conceded six runs in the 18th over before Navdeep Saini dismissed Miller and Pooran while conceding just three runs in the 19th.

With 27 runs needed off the final over, Kings XI could only manage 9 to finish on 187 for 5.

The highlight of the second innings was the final over. With 27 runs needed from one over, Kings XI skipper Ravichandran Ashwin hit Umesh Yadav’s first delivery for a six. However, on the very next delivery Ashwin hit one straight to Virat Kohli at long-on where the Royal Challengers skipper jumped his time to perfection to pull off a fine catch. But what followed thereafter left everyone shell-shocked. Kohli was his usual self and did not hesitate in giving Ashwin a fiery send-off. The star batsman perhaps took a dig at Ashwin for the Mankad incident too. The camera soon focused towards Ashwin who was seen throwing his gloves in the dugout in anger.

Here is the clip of that whole incident involving Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin:
