West Indies, on Saturday, announced ten-man standby list for the upcoming World Cup. Having recently lost the tri-series final to Bangladesh in Ireland, West Indies will continue their preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 with a training camp in Southampton, England from May 19 to 23. All the 15 members of the preliminary squad will take part in the camp. The two-time champions will play a warm-up fixture against Australia on May 22 at the Ageas Bowl.
The Caribbean outfit will then play a couple of warm-up fixtures on May 26 against South Africa and on May 28 versus New Zealand. They will be opening their ICC Cricket World Cup campaign against Pakistan on May 31 at Trent Bridge. Coming to the standby list, there are two big surprises in the form of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard.

Bravo had announced his retirement from international cricket last year. On the other hand, Pollard has not played an ODI since 2016. However, both the players are two of the most experienced allrounders from the Caribbean and can play a big role in the World Cup if they get a call.
Other notable inclusions in the list are batsman Sunil Ambris and all-rounder Raymon Reifer. The two recently played in the tri-series. Ambris, who scored 69*, 23, 148 and 38 in the tri-series, is available as cover for Evin Lewis, who has recently recovered from a viral infection. On the other hand, Reifer will cover for the bowling group as part of work load management.

The likes of John Campbell, Jonathan Carter, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich, Keemo Paul, Khary Pierre are also in the list. However, there was no place for star spinner Sunil Narine.

“The choice of players in the reserve list is to really cover our bases and ensure we have a good balance in the pool of players that can be selected if replacements are required. We think the skill set in this pool is strong with a good blend of experience and upcoming young players who can be ready to contribute when required,” said West Indies’ Interim Chairman of Selectors, Robert Haynes.
