India bounced back strongly as play resumed after the long break due to rain after West Indies openers Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis got them off to a flying start in the third ODI at the Port of Spain in Trinidad. The host managed to post 240 runs losing seven wickets after getting a flying start courtesy their openers. However, the revised target for India will be 255 runs considering the Duckworth Lewis method.

India make a superb comeback
Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis gave West Indies the perfect start they were looking for after Jason Holder won the toss and opted to bat first. The host made two changes in the bowling department while India brought in Yuzvendra Chahal in place of Kuldeep Yadav. Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a steady start, but once Gayle broke the shackles taking Mohammed Shami for a six in the second over, there was no stopping him. Lewis also joined the party as they made merry of the Indian bowling taking them to cleaners.

West Indies’ opening duo brought their 100-runs within the nine overs hitting eight sixes and 13 boundaries before Yuzvendra Chahal provided the first breakthrough at 115 runs. However, Chris Gayle carried on the onslaught before getting out to Khaleel Ahmed after a well-made 72 runs knock. Once the openers were back in the hut, India started to make a comeback with their spinners dominating the proceedings. However, rain played a spoilsport as it came pouring down reducing the game time. After a significant break and the game reduced t 35 overs, India took control over things.

Mohammed Shami provided the first breakthrough after play resumed while Ravindra Jadeja bagged one to bring two new batsmen at the crease. Striving at 171 for four, Nicholas Pooran tried to change gears hitting three sixes including two off Ravindra Jadeja in the same over. But Shami came back in the next over to get the better of Pooran to pull things back. He bowled exceptionally well in the last few overs to restrict West Indies despite Carlos Brathwaite’s last over heroics to 240 runs at the end of 35 overs.

The way Jadeja keeps bowling to left-handed batsmen, keeps showing ample proof there's no point holding him back against them post Powerplay 1.#WIvIND #INDvWI

In his short ODI career so far, Nicolas Pooran averages 25.7 facing deliveries spinning into him compared to a significantly higher 110.0 facing the ones spinning away. Pooran v Jadeja will be a key battle to watch out. #WIvIND

Khaleel bowling ahead of Bhuvi who will not bowl out. Surprising move but it's worked for Kohli.#WIvIND #INDvsWI
