The upcoming three-match Test series will mark the return of cricket post the Covid-19 enforced lockdown. The Test matches will be played at bio-secure centers in Manchester and Southampton.

While the West Indian team will kickstart their first warm-up game on Tuesday, England’s 30-man training group will report to Southampton where they will be tested for coronavirus.

Post the Covid-19 test, the group will self-isolate in the hotel. England’s first training session will take place on Thursday with half of the group training in the morning and the other half in the afternoon.

England will play its first practice match on July 01 after which the squad for the opening Test on July 08 will be announced.

The upcoming series has been named as #raisethebat rubber as a mark of respect and gratitude towards the frontline workers who have toiled away with utmost valor during these unprecedented times of Covid-19.

Before the first day’s play, England players will don training marks with the names of the frontline workers inscribed on their back. The people named on the shirts include doctors, carers, nurses, teachers, etc, all of whom have been nominated by their respective local cricket clubs.

Commenting on the same, England Test captain Joe Root had recently said-

“We’ve waited a long time for this moment, and we wouldn’t be here without the West Indies – we are so grateful to them for making the tour happen. As we get back to playing the game we love, we want to take the time to honour the brave key workers who went into bat for their country under the toughest circumstances. It’s only fitting that we use this series as an opportunity to ‘raise a bat’ in their honour. We’ll wear their names with pride.” Joe Root said.
