Will Pucovski’s name has been doing rounds since the time Cricket Australia named him in the Test squad to face India in four Test matches in the upcoming summer. Will Pucovski’s red-hot form in the ongoing Sheffield Shield has received the reward for the selection in the Test team. The 22-year old feels that it is the right time for him to come into the reckoning for the Baggy Green.

Will Pucovski is the highest run-getter in the Sheffield Shield so far with a staggering 495 runs in two matches and three innings. It includes two double centuries at an average of 247.50 and has 1720 runs in 22 four-day fixtures so far. The Victorian batsman has received backing from various former cricketers to replace Joe Burns, who has not fared as well, to open with David Warner.

Will Pucovski feels he is ready to take on the challenge of playing against a tough Indian side and has earned a berth in the squad. At present, the youngster feels like he is in a better place to grab the opportunity than in the last two years. Pucovski also came into the squad a couple more times previously; however, opted out due to mental health struggles.

This time it feels like I’ve earned the right to be there, and I’m pretty pumped to take the challenge of playing India if I do get the chance. I feel like I’m in a much better place to take the opportunity if it presents itself now than I may have a couple of years ago,” Pucovski stated as quoted by Times of India.

The right-handed batsman further said that not only he has grown in age but also in experience in the last couple of years. Pucovski added that he has ensured to create and maintain the right balance between his cricket and life as well.

“I was 20 a couple of years ago and I’m 22 now. I’ve played 15 or 20 more first-class games and I’ve put a stack of work in off-field to make sure my life and cricket is in a really good place,” he added.
