The former India skipper, MS Dhoni turned 37 today, and quite likely wishes poured in from all parts of the world since the clock ticked 12 at midnight.
Meanwhile, Dhoni played a pivotal with the bat against England on the eve of his birthday but couldn’t stop India from going down in the 2nd T20I. The Eoin Morgan-led team turned upside down, as they overhaul India’s target of 148 runs. Batting first, India went to class to 150-run mark thanks to Virat Kohli and Dhoni.
While Kohli took the onus to steady the innings after an early loss of wickets, Dhoni finished it off in style. Although he started a bit slow, he picked the gear at the right time to finish on a high. He remained unbeaten on 32 runs off 24 deliveries including five boundaries.
The maestro also achieved the feat the feat of playing 500 international games after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Dhoni made his India debut back in 2004 in an ODI against Bangladesh and had played 318 matches since then.
The right-handed batsman has smashed 9967 runs in the ODIs so far. Famous for his lightening glovework, he has taken 297 catches and was involved in 107 stumpings.
While Dhoni is still a part of the limited-overs side, he retired from the longest format of the game in 2014.
Dhoni is also the only captain in the history of cricket to win three ICC trophies. Meanwhile, on this auspicious occasion, wishes poured from all fields for the most illustrious captain in India cricketing history.
