Grant Bradburn says he wishes to coach the New Zealand Cricket Team.

The former Kiwi off-spinner and the current coach of Scotland, Grant Bradburn has shown interest in taking up the head coach’s role of the New Zealand national side after Mike Hesson decided to stand down from his position due to personal reasons.

Meanwhile, Bradburn, who played seven Tests and 11 ODIs for the Kiwis took up Scotland’s job in April 2014. Under his coaching, Scotland did a commendable job in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, beating Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. However, they missed the final berth losing to Windies in the Super Six.

Scotland also posted a memorable six-run win over the top-ranked ODI side England in Edinburgh last week.

Bradburn also guided New Zealand’s domestic side Northern Knights to four titles between 2008 to 2013. Further, he had also coached New Zealand A and Under-19 teams.

Would love to apply for the job

Bradburn noted that family considerations are also a part of the reason why he would look to take up the job. He also admitted it is a dream to coach his home nation.

I would absolutely love to apply for the Black Caps job. It has always been my dream to coach a full member nation, especially my home nation,” he said to Stuff.co.nz. “As a family that has always been our intent to come home at some stage and this presents a double opportunity really for me to pursue what would be a dream job and for us as a family to head back home,” Bradburn added.

With an eye on the upcoming World Cup, Bradburn admitted he has already thought of a roadmap for the side.

Moreover, he also added he would discuss those with New Zealand Cricket before applying for the post.

Incidentally, Scotland Cricket have already started negotiations with Bradburn over renewing his contract.

That’s really nice that they want to retain me and to have that support, but equally Malcolm Cannon, the CEO, he does realise coaching a full member nation has always been my dream. He is well aware the role has come up and he has been encouraging of me applying for that role. They are well aware that the opportunity with these positions is never perfect in timing,” he concluded.
