Kevin Pietersen and Yuvraj Singh were indulged in exchange of messages on Twitter after the former England batsman slammed Rishabh Pant. Pant had the chance to become a hero on Wednesday when he came out to bat for Team India against New Zealand in the first semifinal. India were in all sorts of trouble after losing their top three for just five runs.

Things further deteriorated when Dinesh Karthik also departed cheaply to leave India 4 down for 24. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya then stopped the rot for a while. The two could not score runs at a good pace but made sure to keep their wickets intact. But soon after Pant got his eyes set, he played a poor shot off Mitchell Santner to depart.

The youngster had already done the hard work and needed to capitalise on that. However, a moment of madness cost him his wicket as he departed after scoring 32. Kevin Pietersen was not at all impressed with Rishabh Pant’s mentality and took to Twitter to slam him. The former England skipper called the shot pathetic as he wrote:

“How many times have we seen @RishabPant777 do that?????!!!!! The very reason he wasn’t picked initially! Pathetic!”

Yuvraj Singh, however, was quick to leap in defence of his compatriot. The legendary batsman said that Rishabh Pant is still young and will learn, writing:

“He’s played 8 Odis ! It’s not his fault he will learn and get better it’s not pathetic at all ! However we all are entitled to share our opinions ?”

Kevin Pietersen agreed with Yuvraj as he said his reaction came out of frustation, writing:

“My criticism comes out of frustration because of how good he is, mate. He does it sooooo many times! Let’s hope he learns FAST!”

India, meanwhile, lost the game by 18 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni struck fighting fifties but their efforts were just not enough for India to cross the line.
