Yuzvendra Chahal might have not had a good day in the field but there was still a sliver-lining for the champion T20 bowler as he equaled Jasprit Bumrah’s tally to become the joint-highest wicket-taker for India in the shortest format of the game.

After having played a stellar role in India’s 11-run-win in the last game despite not being in the original playing 11, Yuzvendra Chahal was drafted in the Indian set-up for the second T20I at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

But unlike the last game in which he notched up match-winning figures of 3/23 in four overs, Chahal was taken to the cleaners by the Australian batting-unit.

Chahal conceded 51 runs in his quota of four overs- the third instance of him doing the same for India in T20I cricket.

He, however, claimed a consolation wicket in the form of Steve Smith in his final over after the latter mistimed an attempted lofted cover-drive. Hardik Pandya took a juggling catch at the long-off boundary.

Steve Smith’s scalp was Yuzvendra Chahal’s 59th T20I wicket for the Men in Blue and he has now joined champion fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah as the joint-leading wicket-taker for India in the shortest format of the game.

While Bumrah has claimed his 59 wickets in T20I cricket in 49 innings (50 matches) at an average of 20.25 and an economy rate of 6.66, Chahal has racked up the same in 44 innings (44 matches) at an average of 23.98 and an economy rate of 8.25 which includes second-best match figures for India: 6/25 vs England in 2017.

Meanwhile, Australia has finished with a commanding total of 5/194 in 20 overs in the second T20I at the SCG thanks to a 32-ball 58 by Matthew Wade and a 38-ball 46 by Steve Smith.
