India’s new sensation in the limited-overs cricket, Yuzvendra Chahal cleared all the rumours about his participation in red-ball cricket. He is presently playing with India A in the two-Test (unofficial) series.

Yuzvendra Chahal is participating in red-ball cricket after two years. The last time he played a red-ball match was in December 2016 when he played for Haryana in the quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy.

Yuzvendra Chahal cleared all the air about him getting considered for the England Tests. Some sources were of the belief that Chahal is playing to get a Test nod in the remaining two matches against England.

However, Yuvendra Chahal rejected this, as he said he is participating in the Test series to strengthen his line. He said you have to bowl out your opponent in the Test while, as in shorter format, the batsman gifts you the wicket while trying to go for some runs.

Further, Chahal said, Test cricket adds many qualities like temperament and patience.

“In ODIs and T20s, if the run-rate is high, then the batsman tries to go after you and get out,” Chahal was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “But in the longer form, you need to get them out with your skills. You need to use your brain more. So it’s quite different because you need to bowl 30-35 overs here, but only four overs in T20s.”

The 27-year-old leggie returned to India and joined the India A team after finishing his national duties in England. On long tour including the matches of Ireland, he got eight scalps in the nine games.

Rahul Dravid advises Yuzvendra Chahal

The former India skipper, Rahul Dravid has advised Chahal to play more red-ball cricket. Dravid further said playing the longer format will help him to gain fitness apart from his performance.

“Because there’s a difference between red and white, so the selectors sent me here. A two-year gap is a long time, and I need to stay fit for long periods because you need to bowl 30-35 overs a day. It’s difficult to bowl a good ball but to take a wicket off it, that’s even more difficult. The more I play this format, the more I’ll mature,” he said.
