Mumbai Indians have a lot of seasoned campaigners in their squad and the mega auction might open up a lot of spaces in their squad to fill through their strategies. They have had a pretty good squad over the years and the core is going to remain the same and the team will be built around them.
Mumbai Indians have been very successful so far in the tournament history with five titles in their kitty and they will be looking to continue their dominance. With the performances of the players into consideration, here are 5 former players Mumbai Indians should target in IPL 2022 Auction.
5 Former Players Mumbai Indians Should Target:
Nitish Rana:
Nitish Rana was one of the key contributors for his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders in the last three years and he will be in the eyes of the Mumbai Indians to be bought again. Rana scored 201 runs in the 7 games this year and apart from the two half-centuries, he failed to get going on most occasions.
He is unlikely to be retained by the franchise and hence, he will be up for grabs in the auction. The elegant left-hander is one of the consistent performers in the domestic circuit and he started his IPL career for the Mumbai Indians from the 2014 edition to the 2017 edition.
Nicholas Pooran:
Nicholas Pooran was in the Mumbai Indians squad in the 2017 edition but did not get a game and had to be released after that. He brings in the wicket-keeper option and can be used as a floater in the batting order. Mumbai will have their eyes on getting him in the team if he fails to be retained by Punjab.
Axar Patel:
With Delhi having a lot of Indian stars in their lineup, it is going to be tough for them to retain the all-rounder Axar Patel who has been a great addition to the side after being traded from the Delhi Capitals side. Axar picked up 6 wickets in the 4 games he played this year and he can be very effective with the bat too.
Axar Patel was with the Mumbai Indians squad in the 2013 edition but he couldn’t make his IPL debut for them. With Krunal Pandya not having much impact on the team, Axar Patel might get the nod ahead of him as he can suit the Mumbai lineup pretty well.
Krishnappa Gowtham:
Krishnappa Gowtham can bowl with the new ball and tends to be economical too. He has been in really good form and the off-spinner can be a match-winner with the bat. Mumbai Indians had suffered without a quality off-spinner and Gowtham may be the one who could solve their issues.
Mustafizur Rahman:
Mustafizur Rahman was very impressive this year for the Rajasthan Royals and he showed his worth in the format. He was out of IPL action in the last two years and sort of faded out. But he has made a great comeback and looks to have found his rhythm back.
He picked up 8 wickets in the 7 games he played this year and was executing the yorkers to perfection at the death. He was with the Mumbai Indians for the 2018 edition and played the second fiddle to Jasprit Bumrah. He was released after that and this could be the best time to get his services back for the side.
