T20 cricket has become the best format of cricket since the last decade. The emergence of various T20 leagues across the globe and their popularity is evidence of the same. The Indian Premier League first showed the world what franchise T20 cricket leagues were all about. Slowly leagues like the Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and the Caribbean Premier League have garnered a massive fan following as well.

The leagues have become an annual event with the ICC having definite widows for the same. The IPL is generally played between April-May, BBL between December- January, PSL between June-July, and the CPL between October-November. In this article, we will be featuring defending champions T20 XI from players across all these leagues.

The Mumbai Indians skipper features in this T20 XI as one of the opening batsmen. He has led Mumbai to five IPL titles which justifies his selection in the line-up. Mumbai Indians are also the current defending champions of the IPL having won back-to-back titles in 2019 and 2020.

Josh Philippe – Sydney Sixers (WK)

Sydney Sixers are the best side in the BBL having won the title three times across the 10 editions of the tournament. Phillipe makes it to the XI as the second-opening batsman and as the specialist wicketkeeper in the XI. He was roped in by RCB in the IPL ahead of IPL 2020.

Babar Azam- Karachi Kings

The Pakistan cricket team skipper Babar Azam led Karachi Kings to the title in the last edition of the PSL. The PSL 2021 dates are repeatedly postponed given the logistical issues that the tournament is facing in recent times. As per the latest reports, the second phase of the tournament will be played in the UAE with the Kings looking to defend their title.

Alex Hales- Karachi Kings

Hales is the second cricketer from Karachi Kings to feature in this T20 lineup. Though he is not a regular in the IPL, he is a well sought out cricketer in the remaining leagues. Hales is finding it tough to make a comeback to international cricket in recent times. He last played international cricket for England in 2019.

Hardik Pandya- Mumbai Indians

Pandya’s rise as an international cricketer has majorly been due to his stint with the five-time IPL champions. He has developed into a match-winning all-rounder for Team India. A recent back injury is hindering him from bowling in recent times but he is still more than impactful with the bat alone.

Kieron Pollard- Trinbago Knight Riders

TKR is the defending champions in the CPL. Their skipper Kieron Pollard is the player to have played the most number of T20 games among the active cricketers. He makes it to the side as a representative of his CPL franchise. The dates for CPL 2021 have been announced by the tournament organizers. The 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League will be played from August 28 to September 19.

Dan Christian- Sydney Sixers

Christian won yet another BBL title with Sydney Sixers in the 2020-21 edition. He makes it to the side as one of the three designated all-rounders in the line-up. Christian is amongst the most well-traveled of cricketers in the T20 circuit.

Imad Wasim- Trinbago Knight Riders

Left-arm spinner Imad Wasim makes an entry into the XI as a part of his CPL franchise Trinbago Knight Riders. A good option he bowls a wicket to wicket line and makes it difficult for the opposition to score off him.

Mohammad Amir- Trinbago Knight Riders

Amir is the next player in the line-up. He has signed up a maiden CPL contract with the defending champions and will play alongside the likes of Pollard and Wasim. He plays for the Karachi Kings in the PSL.

Jasprit Bumrah- Mumbai Indians

Another product from the Mumbai Indians scout Jasprit Bumrah features in this line-up. He will partner Amir from the other end as the left-right bowling combination is well maintained. Bumrah is currently among the top five bowlers in the game in all formats.
