The opening pair of Shaw and Dhawan has been very destructive and has kept the senior batsmen Ajinkya Rahane out of the fray in the playing XI. He just played the one innings this year for Delhi Capitals where he was dismissed for eight runs and was unlucky to be dropped after that. His numbers in the tournament are too good to be ignored and his class remains permanent in any format he plays.

R Ashwin has been the premier spinner for the franchise and he has bowled economically despite not picking up wickets regularly. He can bowl in the powerplay as well and is very good against the left-handers generally. Ashwin has a lot of variations and doesn’t bowl the traditional off-spin in the IPL mostly. He finds ways to outclass the batsman and his perception of the game is unique and more aggressive.

Umesh Yadav:

He has been nailing the yorkers and also bowls a heavy ball into the surface in the powerplay.

Ishant Sharma will be leading the pace attack for the Delhi Capitals as he has totally changed into a reliable four overs bowler in the shortest format. He has been accused of being very expensive in the past, but he has been far more accurate and economical in the last three editions. The tall fast bowler does generate pace and hits the top of the off-stump on most occasions.
