England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes came up with a brilliant moment on day four of the second Test between England and New Zealand in Basin Reserve. It was his smart glovework that yielded his team wicket out of nowhere and it became one of the moments from the day’s play.
The second Test between England and New Zealand is beautifully poised for a close finish. New Zealand came up with a better batting approach in the second innings. Led by Kane Williamson’s 132, they posted 582 in the second innings after being asked to follow on by England. Along with him, Tom Latham (83), Devon Conway (61) and Tom Blundell (90), and Daryl Mitchell (54) came up with crucial contributions. Blundell was the last Kiwi wicket to fall.

Taking about wickets, England literally manufactured one out of nowhere in the form of Michael Bracewell. Coming into bat at number eight he scored 8 off 19 deliveries before he was eventually run out.
Bracewell was ambling back for the second run when Ben Stokes with his ailing left knee threw the ball back from the deep to the keeper’s end. The left-hander was taking it slow to reach his end and ultimately was run out in a bizarre fashion.

An accurate throw from Stokes meant that Foakes ripped the bails off in a flash and the square leg umpire referred the decision to the third umpire. The television replays showed that the Kiwi all-rounder reached his ground when Ben Foakes dislodged the bails. However, his left foot and the bat were in the air which meant that he was out as he did not ground his bat or his foot inside the batting crease. It was an agonizing way for Bracewell to get out when he needed to bat time for his team.
The commentators on air criticized Michael Bracewell for taking the second run casually which eventually ended him costing his wicket. For England, it was a moment of joy while a moment of ‘brain fade’ for Bracewell. By the end of the day’s play, England were 48/1 needing another 210 runs to win on day 5.
