Ravichandran Ashwin To Be Included In India's World Cup Squad? Former India Captain Delivers Massive Update

Ravichandran Ashwin has shown his calibre in the 50-over format during the IND Vs AUS ODI Series. The veteran off-spinner took four wickets in two matches during the series. He troubled the likes of David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, and Josh Inglis during the series. It was to the extent that David Warner became a right-handed batsman to tackle his threat but still, Ashwin had the last laugh as he dismissed David Warner.

Ravichandran Ashwin was ignored by the selectors for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 but he got his opportunity against Australia in the ODI series to prove his worth as Axar Patel suffered an injury during Asia Cup 2023. Ashwin took the opportunity with both hands and was brilliant with the white ball to trouble the Australians.

Now after Ravichandran Ashwin’s performance in the IND Vs AUS ODI series, there are speculations that Ashwin might be included in the World Cup Squad given that Axar Patel has not fully recovered from his injury. Former India Captain Mohammad Azharuddin thinks that Ravichandran Ashwin should find a spot in India’s World Cup squad as he has a lot of variations and can bat as well.

“Ashwin is someone who should be in the team. It is not very easy to line up against him as he has got a lot of variations The team has already been announced. It remains to be seen whether Axar is in there or not. Instead of two left-arm spinners, Ashwin can also bat well, he should find a place,” said Azhar who has led India in three World Cups.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s experience and traditional off-spin bowling will be very useful for the team given the number of left-handed batters India will be facing. With the likes of David Warner already struggling against the veteran, it is just a matter of time before Ashwin will make the left-handers dance on his spin but that will only happen if he finds a spot in the World Cup squad and if Axar Patel is completely match-fit, the chances of Ravichandran Ashwin’s inclusion in the squad looks slim.
