New Zealand pacer Tim Southee is set to participate in the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023. However, Tim Southee battles from a thumb injury that he sustained during the ODI series against England last month.
Tim Southee is a crucial member of the New Zealand squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. The right-arm pacer was also part of the recent warm-up game against South Africa but did not bowl a single over during the encounter.
Fingers Crossed For My Recovery Process: Tim Southee
While speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Tim Southee revealed that his dislocated thumb is still tender but he wants to get into some bowling.
“It’s still a bit tender where obviously there’s a bit of scarring and a bit of numbness around where the plate is. So I guess it’s just [about] getting used to that. And getting back into some bowling. Haven’t done a lot of bowling over the last couple of weeks, so it’s about getting your loads back up as well as managing the thumb,” the Kiwi pacer said.

Haven’t Done An Injury Like This Before: Tim Southee
Tim Southee also hopes to recover quickly ahead of ICC World Cup 2023. He also added that he never faced such an injury and the management is trying for a faster recovery.
“[The injury was] something new. Haven’t done an injury like this before. I guess when something like that happens so close to a world event, your mind starts to drift towards that. With the limited time we had, I guess sitting down and working out the fastest recovery time, and the route back was to chuck some screws in it and a plate and hope for the best.
Everyone I’ve dealt with and the process has been brilliant to get me to this stage. So fingers crossed we can carry on the recovery process and be right in time,” Tim Southee further said.
With over 150 ODIs in his kitty, Tim Southee is among the most experienced bowlers for New Zealand in ICC World Cup 2023. The runners-up of the last edition will take on England in the tournament opener on October 5.
