Former Indian batsman Abhinav Mukund revealed his thoughts on the Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma moving down the order in the T20 World cup 2021 game against New Zealand. There have been a lot of question marks over India’s selection for the first two games, and also, the changes in the batting order haven’t helped the cause.
India brought in Ishan Kishan in place of injured Suryakumar Yadav in the game against New Zealand, and the left-hander was sent out to bat with KL Rahul at the top. This had pushed Rohit, and Kohli one place down their preferred batting position and India went nowhere in their batting exploits. Abhinav Mukund shared his views on Rohit Sharma playing at number three instead of opening in the previous game.
I Don’t Think The Indian Team Had Another Option – Abhinav Mukund
Abhinav Mukund was questioned on whether demoting Rohit Sharma was the right option, and he reckoned that India had no other option as Ishan Kishan would be more effective in powerplay rather than in the middle order. He added that this would be the only reason behind demoting Rohit to the number three position.
“I don’t think the Indian team had another option considering Suryakumar Yadav got injured and they wanted to play Ishan Kishan. I understand Ishan Kishan has played in the middle order but he’s been successful at the top. So they played him at the top and Rohit Sharma had to move to number three,” Abhinav Mukund was quoted as saying in an exclusive video chat with Cricket Addictor.
Abhinav Mukund Feels Rohit Is Destructive While Opening
Abhinav Mukund mentioned that he wanted Rohit to open alongside Rahul at the top of the order for India against Afghanistan and reckoned he has more impact there. He also hoped India doesn’t change the combination.
But I really hope against Afghanistan he(Rohit) goes back to partner KL Rahul at the top because we all know he is destructive there and they don’t change the combination at the top, ” he added.
