During the chase, Indian openers KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan smacked spectacular knocks of 51 and 70 respectively. With a high run rate from the start, India were quite ahead in the race for victory. Rishabh Pant also hit unbeaten 29 runs to take the team to victory in the 19th over. India reached the target with 7 wickets in hand.

Australia defeated New Zealand in their previous warm-up game in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Batting first, New Zealand put up 158-7 on the scoreboard. Kiwi openers Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell scored 30 and 33 respectively. One-down Kane Williamson smacked 37 runs. Towards the end, James Neesham hit crucial 31 runs.

For Australia, opener David Warner was gone for a duck. Later, Aaron Finch and Mitchell Marsh hit 24 runs each. Steve Smith also scored 35 runs. Ashton Agar played a crucial knock of 23 runs. In the final over, Josh Inglis smashed 2 consecutive fours to get the winning runs for Australia with 3 wickets in hand.
