2017 Champions trophy final was the last time that Pakistan had beaten India and this game was pure dominance from the men on the green side. Having won the toss, India decided to bowl first and the plans backfired as Pakistan put up an excellent show with the bat. Fakhar Zaman’s century lit up the show while Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali scored half-centuries to finish with 338 for the loss of 4 wickets.

India had a daunting target to chase down and they did not help themselves by losing early wickets. With 6 wickets down for just 72 runs, the onus was on Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja to win the game for India. Hardik smashed 76 off 43 balls and almost pulled back the game for India until he was run out. India ended up losing the Champions Trophy final by 180 runs.

This was one of the rare games that India had lost when the match had gone intense and Pakistan survived under pressure. Pakistan won the toss and put India into bat in which India lost two early wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli. India ended up losing wickets at regular intervals and could muster just 245 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs quota. Rohit Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, and Ravindra Jadeja all scored half-centuries to contribute to the total.

Pakistan in reply started off the chase well and despite wickets falling around, Mohammad Hafeez studied the ship with an excellent 75 off 117 deliveries. He did get support from Sohaib Maqsood while Shahid Afridi played a quickfire cameo in the end that sealed the victory for Pakistan.

2009 Champions Trophy Group A, 6th Match:

The 2009 Champions trophy fixture between India and Pakistan was one of the most fascinating games as both sides had some fantastic players in the lineup. The men in green batted first and put up a score of 302 on the board for the loss of 9 wickets in their first innings with Shoaib Malik scoring the bulk of runs. He scored 128 off 126 balls while Mohammad Yousuf helped him with a brisk 87.

In reply, India was off to a good start with Gautam Gambhir taking on the bowling aggressively. Rahul Dravid came in at three after Sachin fell early and he anchored the ship from one end of the crease. However, Gambhir and Raina were the only two who looked like supporting Dravid and in the end, Dravid had too much to do on his own. He finished with 76 off 103 balls while India lost the game by 54 runs.
