India Squad For T20 World Cup 2021: 3 Players For Whom This Might Prove To Be The Last World Cup. The 15 members Indian squad for the T20 Worldcup 2021 was announced by the BCCI yesterday and there were a lot of interesting names that made the cut into the squad. The big news coming up was the mentorship given to legendary MS Dhoni for this T20 World Cup 2021 alone and it has excited the fans already in the country.

Apart from that, the surprising names that were included were the return of R Ashwin to the limited-overs format after three years and the inclusion of Axar Patel over Krunal Pandya as the backup all-rounder. Yuzvendra Chahal missed out which was very surprising as well and Rahul Chahar’s current form got the nod ahead of the leggie.

R Ashwin:

R Ashwin has been one of the best spinners India has ever had in the red-ball format however, his white-ball numbers have not been bad either and he was dropped from the limited-overs set up after the 2017 champions trophy. His wicket-taking abilities were questioned and eventually, Kuldeep and Chahal were preferred ahead of someone like Ashwin.

But with Washington Sundar injured at the moment, it was an obvious choice for India to go in with Ashwin as there arent many competitors as off-spinners in the country. Ashwin’s last few IPL performances have been so good and he has bowled really well in the IPL for Delhi Capitals and before that, the Punjab Kings. He deserved a place in the squad, but at 34 years, this might be the last Worldcup opportunity.

Mohammed Shami:

Mohammed Shami’s abilities in the limited-overs format are much higher than the numbers tell and he was used as the backup option in the Worldcup 2019 as well. Shami hasn’t been playing many limited-overs games for India but he has done well for the Punjab Kings with the new ball as well as in the death overs. The right-arm seamer is one of the big names for India in the red-ball format for sure.

Shami still has one of the best seam positions in the world, and if the pitch looks like having some little bit of grass, Shami will certainly be useful. He has played just 12 T20 international games so far and his fitness is not really a concern at the moment. However, with the likes of T Natrajan, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur in the mix, this might be the last T20 Worldcup for Shami.

Axar Patel:

Axar Patel was one of the surprising names in the Indian squad and he has played just two T20I games in the last two years. Axar was recently recalled to the Indian test squad against England early this year and his performance was brilliant which earned him a place in the limited-overs squad as well. However, with a lot of o competition for slots, he was a name that wasn’t in the discussion at all.

Axar has been one of the best contributors for the Delhi Capitals in the last two years and he bowled a brilliant super over this year as well. He is more of a bowler than a batsman and that worked in favor of him ahead of someone like Krunal Pandya. Axar needs to perform at his best if he is presented an opportunity or this might be the last Worldcup.
