The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally announced the 15-member squad for the marquee T20 World Cup 2021 event on September 8. The squad saw some major names missing from the team and fans were left surprised at few decisions taken by the selection committee of the Indian team.
The biggest shocker for everybody was the exclusion of leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Also, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin were selected for the team. Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and Shreyas Iyer were kept as standby players, and they were unable to make it to the final squad. Meanwhile, one thing that definitely made fans happy was the addition of MS Dhoni as a mentor in the T20 World Cup team.
Ahead of the T20 World Cup which will commence on 17 October and will end on 14 November all the players selected in India’s squad will play the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in UAE which will begin on Sunday, 19th September, and will end on 15th October.
So the players are expected to enter the world cup with good form under their belt and they will be able to adapt to the condition perfectly. In this article, we will find out how IPL franchises can help Virat Kohli-led India in winning the cup.
3 Ways In Which IPL Franchises Can Help India In Winning The T20 World Cup
3. Give enough rest to key players, especially fast bowlers
The fast bowlers selected in India’s squad are Jasprit Bumrah who represents Mumbai Indians, Mohammed Shami who plays for Punjab Kings, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who is a vital member of the team Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.
Other than this two other pacers have been kept as a reserve; Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur who are part of Ms. Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings.
Teams need to make sure that pacers remain fit entering the T20 World Cup and the franchises should provide rest to the players and keep their workload minimalistic so that they don’t suffer any kind of injury before the tournament.
Also, not only pacers other crucial members of the 15-member squad need to be given proper rest so that they do not carry any niggle in the World Cup tournament. Especially players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, and Varun Chakravarthy who are little injury-prone players.
2. Use each player in the same position as they will play for team India in the World Cup
Suryakumar Yadav who represents Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League is expected to play at the number 4 position in the World Cup, So Rohit Sharma-led franchise needs to make sure that he bats at 4 throughout the tournament. Similarly, Hardik Pandya who is often seen playing at several different positions needs to be given a permanent slot of number 6 by Mumbai Indians so that he can properly adapt to his role in the team.

1. Allow selected players to play the majority of the games to give them a great taste of the conditions across the UAE (Not applicable for fast bowlers)
The most important thing IPL franchises can do to help India win the T20 World Cup tournament is by giving the much-needed playtime to players so that they can get a great taste of the conditions across the UAE and they can adapt to the conditions.
So teams need to make sure that all the players of India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad play the majority of the games in the second half of the Indian Premier League 2021.
However, Obviously, this thing does not apply to fast bowlers, as their workload needs to be managed precisely by the franchises. Fast bowlers have a big responsibility and they need to be given rest whenever they ask for so that they remain fit & fine to represent India in World Cup.
However other than pacers, teams can let spinners and batters play most of the game and let them get a great taste of the conditions in the United Arab Emirates.
