Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta believes the left-handed batsman, Ishan Kishan, is continuing his form from the last couple of matches in the IPL 2021 season, and the team management might be forced to bring him into the playing XI.
Kishan scored a 43-ball 70 against England in the first warmup match of the tournament. He had seven boundaries to go with three sixes but, more importantly, looked at ease in the middle-overs, the phase India generally struggles with.
“The same question arises in my mind also (how will India get Kishan to fit into the side). It wasn’t only 70 runs. It was, how he made them. He’s looking in tremendous flow.“
“Virat has said he’ll bat at 3, and KL has also been exceptional. But the kind of form Ishan Kishan is in will make the team management ponder that how to make him fit into the starting XI,” Dasgupta stated.
One option is to push Ishan Kishan down the order, says Deep Dasgupta
The former Bengali cricketer Dasgupta further analyzed that Kishan’s best knocks have come at the top of the order, particularly when he has opened. However, in the Indian team, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are guaranteed to open, as asserted by skipper Virat Kohli.
“Look there are certain ways to get him into the side. You can try to push him down the order. But I don’t think that he’ll get an opportunity to open and his last three innings where he has done exceptionally well, came while opening the batting,” Dasgupta said.
India defeated England by six wickets in the first warmup match. Kishan and Rahul stitched an 82-run association at the top before Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya applied the finishing touches to India’s chase of 189.
