Former England captain Michael Vaughan has come out in support of star South Africa batter Quinton de Kock refusing to take the knee and has said that it’s down to the individual player to decide whether he wants to get involved in any movement or not.
Star wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was not part of the playing XI in the T20 World Cup 2021 match against the West Indies.
The Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma said that Quinton de Kock has made himself unavailable for selection due to personal reasons, and Reeza Hendricks came in as his replacement. South Africa skipper stated:
“Quinny is out and Reeza is in. He (de Kock) has made himself unavailable for personal reasons.“
However, there was more to it, as in an official statement released by Cricket South Africa (CSA), it was revealed that Board has informed all the players to “take the knee” to support the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. However, Quinton de Kock refused to take the knee ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 clash against West Indies.

Meanwhile, former England skipper Michael Vaughan after the CSA statement came out, posted a Tweet in support of De Kock stating that it’s individual preference whether a player wants to join any movement. Vaughan also stated that a cricket board should request players to get involved in the movement, but if the cricketer doesn’t want to get involved, it should not stop them from playing cricket. Michael Vaughan wrote:
