Australia put on a sensational batting effort to chase down a 176-run total in just 19 overs in the second semi-final match against Pakistan on Friday. With that win, they booked their place for the final of the tournament.

NZ vs AUS: New Zealand’s Predicted Playing XI Against Australia

Openers: Aaron Finch and David Warner

Both the batsmen are amongst the runs and this is a great sign for Australia. David Warner has returned to form just at the right time. He played a blistering 49-run knock off 30 balls in the last game against Pakistan. He has been in great nick and one can expect him to play a similar knock on Sunday.

Aaron Finch got out on a duck in the last game but he too has been in decent touch. He is Australia’s second-highest run-getter after David Warner, having managed to score 130 runs in 6 matches.

Middle-Order: Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Mathew Wade

Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell’s poor form with the bat is a big concern for them. The duo hasn’t looked in great touch and this affects Australia’s momentum in the middle-overs.

Maxwell hasn’t played a single good knock from the bat and there couldn’t be a better opportunity for him to make amends. Mathew Wade’s 40-run unbeaten knock in the last game should give him and the team a lot of confidence. The team would be hopeful of scoring a big score on Sunday.

All-rounders: Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis

Both the players are two of the biggest assets in the team. The duo is in great form with the bat. Marsh came at number three in the last game against Pakistan. He looked good for his 28 off 21. Australia should continue to bat him at number three, given the kind of form he is in.

Marcus Stoinis is the other all-rounder on the side. There is no denying that he has made a world of improvement in his game in the last couple of years. He has played some solid match-winning cameos in the tournament and Australia would be wanting him to finish on a high. The last game saw him scoring an unbeaten 40 off 31 deliveries.

Bowlers: Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, and Josh Hazlewood

Pat Cummins bowled exceedingly well in the last game. Hazlewood and Starc, on the other hand, went for plenty of runs. Having said that, the fast-bowling trio continues to be Australia’s biggest strength. It will be really interesting to see how New Zealand face Australia’s solid fast-bowling unit on Sunday. Mitchell Starc has 9 wickets in 6 games, while Hazlewood has 8 in as many matches.

Adam Zampa should complete the playing XI. He has been the standout bowler in the tournament, having managed to pick 12 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 10.92.
