Former England cricketer Nick Compton speculated that Indian skipper, Virat Kohli’s ‘prickly’ relationship with Ravichandran Ashwin shouldn’t be used to keep him out of the team.

Ashwin last played a white-ball cricket match in 2017 but was chosen for the ongoing T20 World Cup in the UAE. However, his participation was always in doubt as he was rarely convincing in the recently concluded IPL 2021 season, but Compton wasn’t buying it.

I just don’t understand how Kohli’s prickly relationship with Ashwin is allowed to keep him out of Indian teams? Do you think Captains should be allowed such autonomy?” Compton tweeted.

Nick Compton’s tweet:

Team India’s selection policy has already been questioned twice in the tournament after they succumbed to two straight embarrassing losses. While bubble fatigue is partly one of the reasons, there was no intent to compete from the Indian players.

Compton further added that Shardul Thakur shouldn’t be playing ahead of Ashwin, in spite of performing brilliantly in the home T20I series against England.

They shouldn’t be??? You have 2 billion people to choose from? How on earth does Thakur play Test cricket and this? There is no chance in the world he is a better cricketer than Ashwin,” Compton further tweeted.

India’s tournament is almost done and dusted practically, but they still stand a chance depending on how the results in the other games go.
