Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha heaped praises on Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery spinner who is a likely starter in India’s eleven at the T20 World Cup.
Varun Chakravarthy is coming off a fantastic IPL 2021, where he picked up 18 wickets at an economy of 6.59, helping the Kolkata Knight Riders to reach the final. Pragyan Ojha reckons both Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakravarthy should play together as both “bring different dimensions” to India’s bowling attack.
He pointed out that the KKR spinner also has the ability to bowl and pick wickets in any phase of a T20 game; Chakravarthy was smartly used by Eoin Morgan in powerplay, middle-overs and at times in the death overs as well during the IPL.

“Both Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakravarthy bring different dimensions. Chakravarthy has the wicket-taking ability in any situation,” Ojha said at Salaam Cricket 2021.

Considering the pitches in the UAE, the selectors have boosted India’s squad with plenty of spin options. Apart from Jadeja and Chakravarthy, senior off-spinner R Ashwin was recalled, and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar was given a call-up for the World Cup ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal; left-arm spinner Axar Patel is in the reserves.
Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan, who spent the IPL 2021 with Varun Chakravarthy at KKR, hailed the 30-year-old Tamil Nadu spinner as the best of all spinners in the squad.

“India has got four very good spinners. Varun is the best of the lot then you have Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin who has been playing for very long. Rahul Chahar is also a very good bowler,” Harbhajan said.
India will take on Pakistan in their opening encounter on October 24 in Dubai. They will then meet New Zealand, Afghanistan, and two other teams who will qualify from Round 1 in the Super 12 stage.
