Indian cricketer Abhinav Mukund has said that Varun Chakravarthy has been the biggest disappointment for India in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. His words arrive after India failed to qualify for the semi-finals in the tournament. Varun Chakravarthy, who was termed to be the mystery spinner for India in the tournament, failed to bag any limelight during the tournament.
Varun Chakravarthy has failed to get a single wicket in the tournament. He has played 3 matches so far and remained wicketless after bowling 11 overs. He has bowled at an average of 6.45.
Other Indian spinners like Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have come up with a better show than Chakravarthy, who was the leading spinner for the team in ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
Varun Chakravarthy Has Been The Biggest Disappointment: Abhinav Mukund
While speaking to CricketAddictor in an exclusive chat, Abhinav Mukund was asked which Indian player has disappointed the most in the tournament. Mukund mentioned that it is difficult to answer, but he feels that Varun Chakravarthy’s performance was disappointing.
“It’s a very difficult question and I know how it feels when you pinpoint that player in a disappointing campaign in itself. The team has been disappointing.
“They lost against Pakistan and New Zealand but if I have to pick one player and be really critical, I would say Varun Chakravarthy. Because he came onto this tournament with a lot of wickets and lot of form,” Mukund said.
However, Abhinav Mukund also feels that Varun Chakravarthy is going to be a big part of team India in the next one year, and if he bowls well, the team can do well in the middle-overs.
“Unfortunately, he has gone wicketless in the tournament and I am sure he wants to turn things around because he is going to be a big part of what India does in the next year in the lead-up to the World Cup in Australia.
“He if do well for team India, then I think they would do well in the middle overs and as well as teams that struggle against spin”, Mukund further said.

India defeated Afghanistan and Scotland but lost to Pakistan and New Zealand. They will face Namibia in their final match of the super 12 round. However, this will not make any changes to the tournament.
