Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria believes Indian all-rounder Deepak Chahar is a better choice than Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the ICC T20 World Cup, which begins next month in Australia.

Chahar produced a great return for India against South Africa in the opening T20I on Wednesday (September 28). He finished with 2/24, including the coveted wickets of Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma and power-hitter Tristan Stubbs.

It is surprising that the CSK all-rounder has been added as a standby in India’s T20 World Cup roster.

Kaneria said in a video posted to his YouTube channel:

“One thing is clear, if there is no swing, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be punished. He has been hit in the death overs and there will be hard tracks in Australia. Deepak Chahar is a far better option than Bhuvneshwar and he can also bat when required.”

It is important to note that Bhuvneshwar has recently failed to deliver for India in the crucial overs, especially the 19th over. The senior pacer’s final statistics against Australia in the first and third T20Is were 0/52 and 1/39, respectively. For the T20Is series against the Proteas, he has been rested.

Siraj has the body language of a fast bowler: Danish Kaneria

Mohammed Siraj, who has taken the place of injured speedster Jasprit Bumrah for the T20 International match against South Africa, will need to seize the moment if he is given an opportunity in the subsequent games leading up to the T20 World Cup, according to Kaneria.

The speedster will impress in Australia, says the former Pakistani spinner, because of his enthusiasm for the game and eagerness to take wickets. He stated:

“Mohammed Siraj has been called up for the South Africa series. This player will do well because he is energetic and always wants to deliver. Siraj has the body language of a fast bowler, and he, too, knows that he needs to grab the opportunity with both hands.”

The Men in Blue will be in action against the Proteas in the second T20I in Guwahati on Sunday (October 2).
