Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter and selector, Saba Karim, has said that India’s chances of emerging victorious in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 depend largely on the form of the star middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav during the multi-nation tournament.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is the eighth edition of the multi-nation tournament, is scheduled to be played from October 16 to November 13 in Australia.

Team India are placed in Group 2 of the tournament along with Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh. The Men In Blue will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in their tournament opener on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Speaking on SPORTS18’s daily sports news show ‘SPORTS OVER THE TOP’, Karim asserted that Suryakumar bats in middle-overs with an excellent strike rate, which is not at all an easy job.
“Well one thing I can say is – India’s chances of winning the World Cup depend largely on Suryakumar Yadav’s form and I say this because he plays in such a difficult position. In the middle overs, in the T20 format to play with such a high strike rate is not so easy but it comes so easy for Suryakumar Yadav because of his skill, experience and he’s so dexterous,” said Karim.
He’s got an uncanny ability to find the gaps in the right areas – Saba Karim on Suryakumar Yadav
Karim further showered praise on the star middle-order batter and said that he has “got an uncanny ability to find the gaps in the right areas”. He was also hopeful of Suryakumar being at his best during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
“He’s got an uncanny ability to find the gaps in the right areas, at times he toys with the bowling and there are several vacant areas which he is able to exploit so easily. So yes Suryakumar Yadav, I hope and pray that he does well and continues with this form even in the World Cup,” he added.
Suryakumar, who is ranked second in the T20I batter rankings only behind Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, smashed 50 runs off 33 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes, in the first T20I of the ongoing series against South Africa. Also, in the second T20I, the 32-year-old smashed terrific 61 runs off 22 balls, including 5 fours and 5 sixes.
