Afghanistan Cricket Team suffered a narrow defeat against Australia in their last group-stage match. The team wasn’t able to win crucial phases of the match. Afghanistan had a disappointing campaign where they couldn’t win a single match and would consider themselves unlucky as their 2 matches were washed out.
Skipper Mohammad Nabi would be dejected as the team couldn’t perform according to its credentials. The strategy of playing 3 spinners didn’t work as they weren’t that effective. There were huge expectations from Najibullah Zadran as he is known to provide impetus at the back end of the innings.
Mohammad Nabi Steps Down from Captaincy
Mohammad Nabi suddenly resigned from captaincy. The all-rounder made this announcement on his Twitter handle. “Our T20 World Cup journey came to an end, with a result that not us nor our supporters were expecting. We are as frustrated as you are with the outcome of matches. From the last one year, our team preparation was not to a level that a captain would want it or needed for a big tournament,” said Nabi.

Poor Performance
It looked as if Afghanistan were not ready for uphill challenges. The team though showed great fighting spirit against Australia where they almost pulled off a heist. Afghanistan in the last edition was quite close to making it to the Semi-Finals.
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) will have to name a new skipper in the due course of time. It would be interesting to see whether Rashid gets a chance again as earlier before the start of the 2021 T20 World Cup, he had stepped down due to selection issues.
