Indian Cricket Team has been riding high on confidence after their back-to-back T20I Series victories against Australia and South Africa. The Men in Blue are looking invincible at the moment as they have rediscovered their mojo. The billion people would be hoping that the team doesn’t wobble at the crucial moment.

India has been dealt with injuries as their star bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are out of the marquee tournament. Indian Cricket Team is yet to name a replacement for Bumrah. The management has a couple of days before making a change to the original squad.

Bharat Arun on Selection

Bharat Arun was having a conversation with WV Raman and he was asked about Umran Malik and India’s selection.

“Umran Malik is exciting, he’s got the pace. And given the right kind of fields, he’s done pretty well in the IPL. Considering the wickets in Australia I feel India have carried far too many spinners. Somebody like Umran Malik would have been a great fill-up for the team,” said Arun.

“Yes there is bounce, the grounds are big spinners have a very important role in Australia but I think three spinners are too many. Because at any given point you would be playing just one spinner in the team and you have the choice of two spinners in the side.

“Three spinners is too many. That’s why I said Umran Malik instead of one spinner would have been a very very wise move,”  he added.

Conundrum for Management

Mohammed Shami or Mohammed Siraj are the two available pacers who can come in place of Bumrah. Playing with Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh can be dangerous as both of them are quite new to the international arena.

Shami hasn’t played a single T20I match since the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021 and it looks unlikely that he would get a chance as he is yet to pass the fitness test.

As mentioned by Bharat Arun, Umran Malik could have been a great addition as the pacer could have thrived in Australian conditions. Head Coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma will have to be smart here. The duo would be aware that a couple of losses can ruin all of their hard work.
