The BCCI selection committee announced India’s T20 World Cup squad on Monday, September 12. Senior pacer Mohammed Shami has returned to the squad with Rohit Sharma leading the side. Among the other nominal names, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel are also back in the squad. Shami finds himself in the reserves alongside Ravi Bishnoi and Shreyas Iyer
Mohammed Shami was not a part of India’s Asia Cup Squad. His exclusion became the subject of huge debate as India were eliminated from the tournament after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage. Shami who has made a return to the side played his last T20I against Namibia in the T20 World Cup 2021. Thus he is back in the T20I squad after almost a year.
Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda retain their spots from the Asia Cup squad. Kohli ended the Sia Cup with 272 runs from five games with his maiden T20I ton against Afghanistan. Rohit and Rahul also scored some crucial runs.
Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik both are selected for the T20 World Cup. Both of them also retain their spots from India’s Asia Cup squad. Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin are the two specialist spinners selected in the squad with Ravi Bishnoi finding himself in the reserves. Meanwhile, this is how the Twitterverse reacted to Shami’s return to the Indian T20I squad for the World Cup.

I wish the team had allowed itself to see a little more of Mohd Shami after the IPL to allow him to challenge for a place in the XI.

Keeping Shami in reserve is not right according to me because Shami will prove to be very useful in australian condition.@BCCI @SGanguly99 @JayShah @ImRo45 @imVkohli #Shami pic.twitter.com/3QaYIABSMa

Shami’s return to India’s T20 World Cup squad is the big news at the moment. The selection committee was criticised for dropping him from the Asia Cup where the Indian team played with just two pacers. Along with Shami, Bumrah, Harshal, Bhuvi and Arshdeep complete India’s pace attack.
