India National Cricket Team express pacer Umran Malik, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), are all set to travel with India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad to Perth on October 6, according to a report in Sportstar.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which is the eighth edition of the multi-nation tournament, is scheduled to be played from October 16 to November 13.

Team India have been handed a major blow ahead of the marquee tournament as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has suffered a back injury that has ruled him out of the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa. Also, PTI had reported that the star pacer has been ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

“Bumrah is not going to play the T20 World Cup for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

However, on Friday, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that the premier pacer has not yet been ruled out of the multi-nation tournament.

“Bumrah is not out of the World Cup yet,” Ganguly told the Xtra Time digital channel in Kolkata on Friday.

Reportedly, the BCCI will wait until the last minute before deciding whether Bumrah can travel with the team on October 6. Also, reports claim that there are plans to fly Bumrah to Australia in case he gets fit a week or a fortnight later as India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in their tournament opener on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The Indian contingent will be carrying at least two additional fast bowlers as a backup for Bumrah with one travelling as a net bowler in the preparatory phase of the tournament, reported Sportstar.

“Sportstar understands that Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik will travel with the squad to Perth on October 6, where the Indian team will train for a week before travelling to Brisbane for its first warm-up match on October 17.”

Notably, Siraj, who has played all three formats for India, has replaced Bumrah in the squad for the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa.

Talking about Umran Malik, the Jammu and Kashmir express pacer got his India T20I call-up after a stellar performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The 22-year-old, who made his debut against Ireland, was dropped from the side after poor performances with the ball in 3 T20Is.
