The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Thursday (November 3) that, because the umpires during the game paid no attention to the contentious umpiring issue, they will bring it up in the appropriate forum after the national team’s T20 World Cup 2022 match against India at Adelaide Oval.

Virat Kohli was accused of “fake fielding” by Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan following the game.

The former India captain pretended to be relaying an Arshdeep Singh throw from the boundary during the seventh over of Bangladesh’s chase, according to BCB, who claim that umpires Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown were unaware of the occurrence.

The two batters Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto, who were out in the middle did not notice anything, nor did the umpires.

Umpires Did Not Notice The ‘Fake Throw’: Jalal Yunus

The head of BCB’s cricket operations, Jalal Yunus, told reporters on Thursday that despite the false fielding incident, the standing umpire paid them no attention.

“We have spoken about it. You have seen it on the TV and everything happened in front of you. There was one regarding a fake throw and we have notified the umpires about the fake throw but he said he did not notice it and that is the reason he did not take the review.

“Shakib discussed a lot about it with Erasmus and even spoke with him after the game,” Jalal said.

The “deliberate distraction, deceit, or obstruction of [the] batter” is forbidden under Law 41.5, which deals with unfair play. If an occurrence is found to be a violation, the umpire may rule that specific delivery to be a dead ball and provide the batting side five runs.

Umpires Rejected Bangladesh Appeal For A Delayed Start: Yunus Jalal

Bangladesh appeared to be irritated as well about having to pick up the pursuit so soon after a heavy downpour soddened the ground. While the umpires discussed the playing conditions in the shortened game with the two captains, Shakib was seen stroking the grass with his hand.

Jalal claimed that despite Bangladesh’s appeal for a delayed start, the umpires paid little attention to it.

“Secondly, Shakib had spoken about the wet field and he asked that he can take some more time and let the field get dried and start the game after the field is dried. But… the umpires’ decision is final and that is the reason there was no place for an argument. There was only one decision whether you will play or not play,” he said.

In addition, various umpiring choices in the Group 2 game were scrutinised. When Hasan Mahmud top-edged an attempted pull during the 16th over of India’s batting, Kohli pointed out to the square-leg umpire that Mahmud had violated the one bouncer per over-regulation. When umpire Erasmus affirmed the no-ball decision, Kohli, Shakib, and Erasmus quickly teamed up.

“We have it in our head so that we can raise the issue in the proper forum,” Jalal concluded.
