Team India made it to the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 after topping Group 1. They qualified for the semis after South Africa’s loss to the Netherlands on Sunday. However, their emphatic win over Zimbabwe was even more special. They will take on England in the second semifinal in Adelaide on November 10. The IND vs ENG semifinal promises to be a spectacle to remember.

India’s win over Zimbabwe was made memorable courtesy of some splendid batsmanship from Suryakumar Yadav. He scored 61 off 25 balls and in the process, completed 1000 T20I runs in 2022. He has also hit over 50 sixes in T20Is this year alone. His innings propelled India to 186/5 which in the end proved enough.

His knock was backed up by the Indian bowlers who struck early and took wickets at regular intervals. Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel took one each. Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami took two each as India won the game by 71 runs and fixed a semi-final date with England on November 10 in Adelaide. India won the game they played against Bangladesh at this venue and have happy memories of this ground.

They are up against an England side who have found momentum and form just at the right time. They lost against Ireland early on in the tournament but with back-to-back wins against New Zealand and Sri Lanka are on even terms with India.

Both sides are strong and can beat the other on a given day. In this article, we take a look at three Indian players who will play their last T20I match if India ends up losing to England and not making it to the final of the World Cup.

IND vs ENG: 3 Indian Players Who Will Play Their Last T20 Match If India Lose To England In T20 World Cup Semi-Final

1) Dinesh Karthik

Karthik scored 1, 6, and 7 in the three times that he batted in this World Cup. He was dropped in the game against Zimbabwe and might not make it to the playing XI for the semifinal. In case he returns to playing XI and India ends up losing the contest, that will be his very last T20I for India.

The management is also not willing to consider him in T20Is in the future after this tournament. With the likes of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan available for selection, Karthik’s international career might be over after the World Cup.

2) Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin too might play his last T20I if India does not win the semi-final against England. He has played his part in this tournament with both bat and ball. His most successful figure in this World Cup came against Zimbabwe where he picked up three for 22. Overall, he has picked up 72 wickets in 64 T20Is so far. In this World Cup, he has picked up six wickets from five games.

3) Mohammed Shami

Shami was called up into the India T20I squad as a replacement for the injured Mohammed Shami. The management had plenty of options but decided to go with the veteran. His selection for the World Cup was influenced by the pacy and bouncy conditions in Australia which suits his bowling style.

So far he has bowled well in the tournament and has been an able ally for his skipper Rohit Sharma. However, his T20I future after the World Cup remains bleak with the management having specialist bowlers for the format ready and available.
