After England eliminated India from the T20 World Cup semi-finals, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh questioned India’s selection.

Speaking to India Today, Harbhajan Singh expressed his confusion over why India had not played Yuzvendra Chahal during this entire time.

Harbhajan Singh continued by saying that one of the reasons for the defeat was the inability of the present spinners for India, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin, to bowl in the manner of a spinner.

Harbhajan Singh Questions Yuzvendra Chahal’s Exclusion From The Team

It is hurting, more because that we did not fight at all,” Harbhajan Singh told India Today in the Battle of Champions show.

“India batted like ODI in first 10-12 overs like they still had 40 more overs to play. India should learn this format from England. They played like champions.

It is very disappointing to see India’s approach throughout the tournament where they did not look like they would score more than 35 runs,” he spoke about the batting unit.

“I don’t know what are the reasons that a champion bowler (Yuzvendra Chahal) is not in the team. He must have done something to someone that he is not getting a game. With his credentials he should have been your first choice spinner,” Harbhajan Singh pondered.

Chahal has long been supported by India in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup, but they ultimately decided to sit him for the duration of the competition after the bowler had a protracted stretch of costly spells. Instead, India went with the defensive spinning team of Axar Patel and Ravi Ashwin, but the decision backfired against England.

In the opening 10 overs of the game, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales destroyed the Indian bowlers by attacking them during the powerplay and scored 98 runs without losing a single wicket.

With 24 balls left, England completed the goal chase at the end. Pakistan will now be the opponent for Buttler and his team in the tournament’s championship game.
