Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary Indian batsman, has supported Virat Kohli to perform well for India in the T20 World Cup 2022 and has praised his better shot selection. In order to take advantage of his recent better form, Kohli will enter the T20 World Cup in Australia, one of his favorite hunting grounds.

Speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar claimed that Virat Kohli was acting too frantically and taking risks with his playing before the Asia Cup. The legendary batsman expressed his satisfaction at Kohli’s decision to enhance his shot selection and consistency in the continental tournament.

Sunil Gavaskar Confident About Virat Kohli’s Form

With 847 runs scored in 21 matches at an average of over 70, Virat Kohli has been one of the most reliable hitters in the T20 World Cup competitions. The former skipper will want to maintain a strong performance in the ICC’s signature event in Australia.

“When there is a big match, a big player will put his hand up and say that ‘I am ready for this battle and perform in the match’. From the Asia Cup, his shot selection has improved even more,” Gavaskar said.

“Before that, his shot selection was a little awry because he was not able to make runs consistently. He was playing the deliveries that were floated well outside and getting out, at times, he didn’t have luck, he got out to inside edges, and got out to good deliveries.

“But after the Asia Cup, his shot selection has improved so much that he is aware of when to play what shot.

“The consistency with which he played in the Asia Cup is only making us believe that he will score aplenty in T20 World Cup 2022,” he added.

Prior to the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli’s inclusion in the T20I team was called into doubt because the previous captain had only scored 81 runs in 4 games. However, during the regional competition in the UAE, Kohli showed glimmers of his comeback to top form.

He struck his first T20I hundred against Afghanistan in 66 balls, blasted two fifties, and led India’s batting charts. In the home series against Australia and South Africa, Kohli maintained his strong play, producing significant hits in match-deciding innings.

India will play Pakistan in Melbourne on Sunday to open off the T20 World Cup 2022.
