After Arshdeep Singh displayed ice-cold composure in the final over to defend 20 runs and assist the Indian side to secure a 5-run victory over Bangladesh in the rain-marred thriller in Adelaide on Wednesday, former India spinner Pragyan Ojha showered the young pacer with accolades.

After a brief rainstorm, Bangladesh’s revised aim of 151 in 16 overs was needed, but they ultimately reached 145/6. India, who now has six points after four games, must defeat Zimbabwe in their final Super-12 encounter to guarantee a spot in the last four.

Young Arshdeep Singh bowled a few superb yorker-length deliveries to break the tie despite Nurul Hasan hitting him for a six and four in the final over, which needed 20 runs off it.

Everybody Knew What Arshdeep Singh Can Offer: Pragyan Ojha

Ojha has praised Arshdeep and given him the support he needs to emulate Jasprit Bumrah and play for the Indian cricket team in all three game formats.

“I think when he made his name in the IPL and then he got into the Indian team, everybody knew what he can offer but the best part is what he promised he delivered.

I am very sure he is going to take this forward and become a mature bowler in the years to come just like Bumrah,” Pragyan Ojha told India Today in an exclusive conversation.

Arshdeep Singh Should Be Playing All Three Formats: Pragyan Ojha

Ojha noted that if Arshdeep maintains his workload and conditioning correctly, he has the potential to develop into a great player in the years to come.

“Arshdeep should be playing in all three formats and delivering for the country because he has got the ability to bowl in different areas.

He has got the ability to swing, he can swing away, he can get the bowl back in and clarity that he shows because bowling in the death you need someone who is confident and also who has a very good and clear mind.

These are the qualities of a player who can become great in the years to come. The biggest challenge would be his fitness-how well he manages his workload. When you talk about his skill, he is spot on,” Ojha added.

With six points from four games, India outperformed South Africa to take first place in Group 2 of the Super 12. Thursday’s encounter in Sydney between Pakistan, who are in fifth place, and second-place South Africa will have a significant impact on the group. In its final game, Bangladesh—which has four points and is in third—will face Pakistan.
