Pakistan take on Bangladesh in match 41 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The PAK vs BAN match is the penultimate Super 12 game and a must-win for both teams to stay alive in the race for the semis. Pakistan are currently third on the Group 2 points table while Bangladesh is fourth.

Pakistan won their previous match against South Africa. The Tigers, on the other hand, lost their previous game against India. It’s a straight shootout contest between both teams with the campaign coming to an end for the team that loses the contest.

The Men in Green brought out their best game of the campaign so far against South Africa. They headed into this must-win contest and different players stood up for the team. Iftikhar Ahmed scored a crucial fifty s did Shadab Khan. He took wickets with the ball as well to cap off a memorable performance. He has taken 8 wickets so far in the tournament.

Pakistan’s problem has been their openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan not giving them consistent starts in this tournament so far. Both of them are not within the top run-getters list. Against Bangladesh, they need to give the team a headstart for the rest of the players to come into the contest. The openers can ill afford to not score runs in this contest.

Pakistan Squad

Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood, Usman Qadir. Standby Players: Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Haris, Shahnawaz Dahani.

In Shakib’s own words, Bangladesh was close but not quite close enough against India. They have won two out of their four games with a negative NRR (-1.276). A win takes them to six points but does not guarantee them a spot in the semis. They need a few other results to go their way as does Pakistan.

“It’s been the story when we play against India, we are almost there but we don’t finish the line. Both teams enjoyed it, it was a great game and that’s what we wanted. At the end someone has to win and someone has to lose” said Shakib after the loss against India. But losing is not an option for Bangladesh in this game as that would end their campaign. The side has not been at its best so far and this is the match to play their best cricket.
