India vice-captain KL Rahul produced a moment of brilliance in the field as he managed to make a direct hit that caught the dangerous in-form Liton Das short of his crease while going for a quick second run and got him run out in the ongoing IND vs BAN T20 World Cup 2022 match in Adelaide.
The match resumed after a quite lengthy rain interruption which reduced the number of overs from 20 to 15 and gave Bangladesh a revised target of 151 instead of 187.
Earlier India had posted 186/6 in 20 overs after Rohit Sharma was asked to bat first by Shakib Al Hasan who won the toss. Both the teams have a chance to qualify for the semi-finals, with India a bit ahead on net run rate and needing to win their matches against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Bangladesh will next face Pakistan.
KL Rahul struggled to get going at the start as Bangladeshi bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud kept things tight in the powerplay. This also resulted in Rohit Sharma losing his wicket trying to go for big shots for 2 runs.
But then KL Rahul got some form back with Virat Kohli guiding him as he hit his first half-century of this tournament. Rahul made 50 in 32 balls with 4 sixes and 3 fours. Suryakumar Yadav then hit a quick 30 in 16 balls before Shakib Al Hasan clean-bowled him.
India lost wickets looking for quick runs as Hardik Pandya fell for 5 runs and Dinesh Karthik was run out for 7 runs, but Virat Kohli continued his sublime form, hitting 64* with 8 fours and 1 six to his name. Even R Ashwin contributed 13 runs with one six and one four. Mahmud took 3 wickets, while Shakib took two wickets for Bangladesh.
Liton Das Scores 21-Ball Fifty, But Gets Run Out Due To KL Rahul’s Brilliance
Liton Das and Najmul Hasan Shanto came out all guns blazing against Indian bowlers adding 68 runs in 8 overs. They went hammer and tongs against all bowlers but Bhuvneshwar Kumar went for 27 runs in his 3 overs and Arshdeep Singh was hit for 3 fours in his one over.
Liton Das made a 21-ball fifty and was exceptional in taking on the Indian bowlers. Then the rain came down with Bangladesh 66/0 in 7 overs and by the time everything cleared off, Bangladesh lost 5 overs and now needed 151 to win in 15 overs.
Just after the play resumed, Najmul Shanto hit Ashwin to deep midwicket and took off for two runs. However, Liton was slow in getting out of the blocks and KL Rahul stationed at the position got to the ball quicker than expected and then managed to score a direct hit.
And despite diving to make his ground, Liton was very short of his ground and walked off for 60 in 27 balls with 3 sixes and 7 fours.
