Glenn Phillips has a penchant for pulling off outrageous catches on the cricket field and he did it once again to send back Marnus Labuschagne in the ongoing second Test between New Zealand and Australia in Christchurch.
The Australian batsman was well set and was batting on 90. The Black Caps needed a moment of brilliance to get rid of Labuschagne and Glenn Phillips rose to the occasion as he took a breathtaking diving catch to give his team the much-needed breakthrough.
Labuschagne was facing New Zealand captain Tim Southee in the 61st over when Glenn Phillips took the screamer. The right-arm pacer bowled one just outside the off and Labuschagne decided to go for the shot after seeing the width. While he did not really manage to make good contact, the thickish top edge looked good enough to take the ball to the boundary.
But before the ball could go past Glenn Phillips at the gully, he made a full-length dive to his right and caught the ball with one hand. He managed to keep the ball in his palm even though his elbow thudded onto the ground as he landed. Labuschagne looked absolutely stunned at the catch and had no other option but to walk off after falling short of his 12th Test ton by just 10 runs.

Talking about the game, Australia scored 256 runs in their first innings to take a handy lead of 94 runs. Australia resumed day two on 124 for 4 with Labuschagne and Nathan Lyon starting the proceedings with the bat. The two added 34 runs to the overnight score before Lyon departed for 20. Mitchell Marsh then fell for a duck. Alex Carey (14) could not do much with the bat either as Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Some useful contributions from the lower-order players such as Mitchell Starc (28) and Pat Cummins (23) helped the visitors cross the 250-run mark. Matt Henry starred with the ball, taking 7 wickets for 67 runs. In reply, New Zealand were on 43 for 1 at tea. Earlier in the game, the Black Caps were bowled out for a modest 162 runs in their first innings.
