Former England skipper Joe Root spoke about “Bazball” before Pakistan’s upcoming Test series at home against the Kiwis. Pakistan takes on the Kiwis in a two-match Test series starting with the first Test in Karachi on December 26. The Test series is a part of the ongoing World Test Championship. Pakistan are placed seventh and the Kiwis are eighth on the table.
Pakistan are heading into this series after losing 0-3 in a Test series against England. The series was defined by the Bazball approach with England scoring over 500 runs on the first day of the first Test.
Its An Interesting One: Joe Root On Bazball
“It’s an interesting one! Whatever you want to call it, it’s been great fun to play, and I think it must be quite difficult to play against – knowing what score to set,” said Root.
Root further spoke about the Brendon McCullum-Ben Stokes combination. He spoke that the duo thinks along similar lines and are very supportive of the players guiding them to play with this approach.
“It felt like we can score six, seven runs an over on occasions, and when that’s the case you feel like anything is possible. You can chase anything down and even in a game that looks like it could end up being a draw when you can score 200 plus in a session, it doesn’t feel like that’s really a result option anymore. I think Brendon’s got a very aggressive approach to how to play the game, I think Ben is even more aggressive! It is exciting.” Root added.
Root further highlighted that the team has started realizing the important moments during the game and soaking up the pressure.
“I think one thing that gets overlooked is that there have been moments where we’ve recognized important play and had to absorb some pressure, and even though they might just be for four, five, six overs, they are a really important five, six overs where previously you might lose two wickets and the game is thrown massively in favor of the opposition,” said Root.
England are currently placed fifth in the WTC points table with 124 points from 22 matches with a percentage point of 46.97. They have the most points among the top nine teams however, they are placed below four other teams because of their percentage point.
