India National Cricket Team won the second Test match of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team by 238 runs to gain 12 crucial ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Points.

The pink-ball Test match between Rohit Sharma-led India and Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

The Day 1 of the pink-ball Test match was dominated by the bowlers of both the team and a sole batsman, which was Shreyas Iyer. Iyer was able to score 92 runs off 98 balls on the tough batting surface, including 10 incredible fours and 4 wonderful sixes.

With the help of an amazing innings by Iyer and decent innings by Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant, India were able to score 252 runs.

Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne opened the innings for Sri Lanka in their first innings and Jasprit Bumrah opened the attack for India. Bumrah bowled a good first over and in his second over he cleaned up Kusal Mendis at the score of 2.

In the 5th over of the innings, Bumrah dismissed Lahiru Thirimanne for 8 and Mohammed Shami castled Sri Lanka captain with a terrific delivery in the 6th over. Dhananjaya de Silva had a 14-run stand with Angelo Mathews before getting out in the 12th over, which was bowled by Mohammed Shami.

Sri Lanka reached the 50-run mark in 15.5 overs. At the score of 50, Sri Lanka lost the wicket of Charith Asalanka. Senior batsman Angelo Mathews also got out after scoring 43 runs off 85 balls and at stumps on Day 1 Sri Lanka were at 86/6.

On Day 2, Sri Lanka started off where they left on Day 1 and their struggle continued against the world-class bowling unit of the Indian team. Sri Lanka lost the wicket of Lasith Embuldeniya in the 33rd over and they reached the 100 runs mark in 33.5 overs. Then, Sri Lanka lost three quick wickets of Suranga Lakmal, Niroshan Dickwella, and Vishwa Fernando to get bundled out for 109 runs in 35.5 overs.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal were able to add only 9 runs in the first innings but in the second innings, they managed to have a 42-run stand off 64 balls before the latter was dismissed by Lasith Embuldeniya in the 11th over.

Rohit Sharma and Hanuma Vihari batted very well against Sri Lanka bowlers and added good 56 runs together off 119 balls. India captain Rohit was unfortunate as he fell just 4 runs short of a half-century as he was dismissed by Dhananjaya de Silva at the score of 46 runs.

Praveen Jayawickrama sent Hanuma Vihari back to the pavilion in the 34th over and India’s No.3 was able to score only 35 runs off 79 balls, including 4 fours. In the 36th over Jayawickrama was also successful in dismissing former India captain Virat Kohli, who was able to score 13 runs off 16 balls, including one boundary.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant played a sensational knock and became the fastest Indian to smash a half-century in Test cricket. He completed half a century off just 28 balls to surpass Kapil Dev’s record of 30 balls.

Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Praveen Jayawickrama on the last ball of the 42nd over. Pant was able to score 50 runs off 31 balls and his innings consisted of 7 fours and 2 amazing sixes. Then, Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja had an amazing 66 runs partnership before Jadeja was cleaned up by Vishwa Fernando and Iyer was dismissed by Embuldeniya. Also, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin got out early and India declared at 303/9 to give Sri Lanka a mammoth target of 447 runs to chase.

Chasing the target Lahiru Kumara was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in the first over itself and at stumps on Day 2, Sri Lanka were 28/1 in 7.0 overs.

Sri Lanka National Cricket Team were off to a good start on Day 3 of the pink-ball Test match against India. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis batted brilliantly against the Indian bowling unit and added 97 runs off 115 balls before the latter was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. Mendis smashed 54 runs off 60 balls, including 8 fours. Sri Lanka lost quick wickets of veteran Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Niroshan Dickwella and Charith Asalanka.

In the end, captain Dimuth Karunaratne smashed a brilliant ton but it was not enough to help Sri Lanka win the match. And with the help of total domination of the Indian bowling unit, Rohit Sharma and co. won the match to win the two-match series by 2-0.
